Frances Patella BFA, Born in Italy, Toronto based Frances Patella’s photo based mixed media work has been exhibited in numerous public and private galleries and has won awards including mid-career grants from the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils. Frances’ work is in numerous private and public collections. She is a Director and Chair of Jury and Judges for the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and is a Director of the Board of Propeller Gallery. Frances has taught visual arts and analog photography in numerous venues including the Toronto District School Board, the Photo Educators Forum, and the National Gallery of Photography. Frances’ work of the Oak Savannahs depicts one of Canada’s most endangered ecosystems, transformed during prescribed burns. “It is the visual change in the state of things which will reveal their essential reality”. Taking artist / philosopher Roy Ascott’s quote as inspiration, she introduces a temporal aspect to the representation of the landscape
